A Legacy Rooted in Accounting
Early Lessons Inside a CPA Practice:
Brian Kelly did not stumble into bookkeeping later in life. He grew up inside the craft.
His mother was a Certified Public Accountant who ran her own accounting and tax firm for decades. Brian grew up watching her guide business owners through messy books, difficult returns, and complex financial decisions with a mix of accuracy, empathy, and calm professionalism.
He learned early that great bookkeeping requires two things:
precision to keep finances right
compassion to support clients through financial stress
These lessons shaped his understanding that bookkeeping is never just about numbers. It’s about people.
Learning the Craft From the Inside
As he grew older, Brian began taking on real responsibilities in the firm. He performed QuickBooks Desktop bookkeeping, categorized transactions, reconciled accounts, cleaned up charts of accounts, and prepared financial records for tax filings.
These hands-on responsibilities taught him what no textbook could:

This perspective still guides Kellcat today.

Growing Into the Profession
Brian continued working in his mother’s firm through his early adulthood and eventually became an Enrolled Agent, providing tax preparation and advisory support. From 2006 to 2018, he handled:

multi-year cleanups
year-end organization
sensitive conversations with small business owners navigating financial stress
When his mother passed away in 2018, Brian completed much of the remaining client work to ensure a smooth and respectful transition. It was a difficult season, but it reaffirmed his connection to the profession and the responsibility that comes with handling someone’s financial life.
During that time, he made a promise:
"If he ever returned to accounting full-time, he would honor his mother’s legacy with clarity, care, and doing things the right way."
